Welcome back to Term 3
A warm welcome back to all our students and families to Term 3. It’s hard to believe we are now half way through the year. We hope you all had an opportunity to spend some quality time with your families over the break. We also welcome back Leanne to Room 8 on Fridays returning from time overseas with her family. The staff are looking forward to another successful term of learning and growth for our wonderful students.
Pupil Free Day
We had a fantastic collaborative shared Pupil Free Day with Hawthorndene Primary School on the first Monday back. The focus of the day was to continue our work on shared goals across our Site Improvement Plans. We held two sessions across the day in both Literacy and Numeracy and it was a wonderful opportunity to have rigorous discussion and learn alongside our colleagues.
Our Brightpath project officer, Ali Newbold, delivered a session on Persuasive Moderation with a focus on maximizing our knowledge of sentence structure to enhance students’ writing. This session involved staff collaboratively moderating 3 persuasive samples using a range of Brightpath tools to identify and assess sentence structure, while also focusing on how to provide feedback to effectively support students’ goal setting to improve their ability to use complex sentences to enhance their writing.
In our Numeracy session Sam Leane, our Curriculum Lead, provided professional learning around questioning for effective understanding in mathematics. This learning offered staff a series of resources, discussion opportunities and task design examples to foster quality questioning techniques that enable deeper thinking in problem solving. Staff explored the different types of questioning techniques and took opportunities to design learning to incorporate quality questioning into their lesson plans. A big thank you to Jake for his support in the organization and facilitation of this Numeracy session.
Our SSO team attended Hawthorndene Primary School to participate in professional learning on building an understanding of Autism in young learners. This session was delivered by Hawthorndene Primary School’s Autism Inclusion teacher Lisa Prevett and explored current evidence-based supports, strategies, approaches and resources within autism and inclusive learning.
Congratulations Matilda and Ainslie
We congratulate Matilda and Ainslie for the completion of the Orbis Primary years Literacy course. Over the last two terms they participated in a series of professional learning sessions to build their knowledge and develop their capability to explicitly and systematically improve the literacy knowledge, skills and understanding of learners in the middle primary years. The program offered practical ways to engage and enrich literacy learning for students across years 3-6 culminating in a presentation and graduation ceremony at the Education Centre in Hindmarsh. A fantastic effort, well done!
Drive In
As an end of term celebration Room 3, 4, 5 & 6 hosted a Banana Box Drive-In Movie. The Reception and Year 1 children used their creativity to transform a box into their very own car. Following this they drove their car to one of the two theatres. The children then relaxed in their cars, ate some delicious snacks and watched a movie.
Second Hand Book and School Uniform Sale
The Year 6 Resource Centre team raised $1115.75 at the second-hand book/jigsaw sale and will use the money to revamp the Senior Library. A huge thank you to everyone who donated items and to all the enthusiastic shoppers. And congratulations to the Year 6 team who were amazing in their commitment and enthusiasm.
We also raised $149.50 in the second hand school uniform sale, the allocation of these funds is yet to be confirmed by the sustainability committee.
After School Soccer
The Senior Rovers Team had a great night Monday night at the Southern Districts Soccer Carnival!
3 wins and 1 draw to their name was a massive effort by the players!
Despite the mud and the rain our school was very well represented by a team of hardworking, well-mannered sports people showing the best of what sport can be. Their coach and parents were all super proud of how the team handled themselves on and off the field. We have every reason to be very proud of them and the culture we have at EHPS.
It was really great to see.
GO ROVERS!!
SAPSASA
Hockey
In June, I was fortunate to get picked to play in the Southern Heights and City South SAPSASA hockey team. My position was goal keeper and I had a fun tournament making lots of saves. It was great to meet new people and the whole team was really nice. In the end we won 5 games, drew 2 and lost 2, and came fourth overall.

Breakfast Club
Breakfast Club has been very busy so far this year with many of our students turning up for toast, fruit and Milo on a Wednesday morning. We remain grateful to Kickstart for Kids for their ongoing donations of bread and milk, and for providing us with a volunteer helper.
We would love to accept any donations of gluten free bread, Milo, Vegemite, jam or honey as we often run out of these items.
Breakfast Club for our students starts in week 2 of term and is on Wednesday mornings 8:30 - 8:50am in Room 2. Please remind students to come early so they don’t miss out.
Student Medication
Please remember that any medication sent to school for children to take throughout the day, even on a short-term basis, must be accompanied by a medication agreement form that is obtained from your doctor or on our website under the parent information tab. Staff are not allowed to administer any medication without written instruction from the doctor. Also, all medication should be taken to the office at the beginning of the day for safe storage.
If medication is directed to be taken 3 times a day please consider before school, after school and either at dinner or bed time. This can eliminate the added stress of bringing medication to and from school.
Book Week at Eden Hills Primary School - Week 6
The official CBCA Book Week 2023 “Read Grow Inspire” is in Week 5 of this term. However, at Eden Hills our Week 5 is already jam-packed full of other commitments so we will be celebrating Book Week in Week 6 (Monday 28 August – Friday 1 September). During this week, the Year 6 Resource Centre team will run special activities for each class and children’s book illustrator Ross Morgan will also be visiting us.
And, of course, in keeping with tradition, Wednesday (30 August) will be Dress as a Book Character day. There will be an open morning, assembly and costume parade.
Playgroup
Playgroup runs on Friday mornings from 9:00 - 10:30am during term time. Playgroup is held in the Resource Centre and caters for children aged to 5 yrs.
Entry is a gold coin donation per family and instant tea and coffee are complimentary. Espresso coffee is available for $1. Please bring your own lidded keep-cup and a healthy snack for your little one/s to eat during shared story time.
Each week, Playgroup focuses on a different Theme, providing a range of activities that allow parents/grandparents and caregivers to interact and strengthen attachments with their young children, and to share the experience of learning through play.
Open to everyone, the Eden Hills Primary School Playgroup is a great place to meet other families from the community in a welcoming, safe and friendly environment. We would love to see you there!
