Term 4
A warm welcome back to everyone for our final term. I hope you all had a safe and restful holiday with your families and loved ones. It’s hard to believe that Christmas will soon be upon us, we are looking forward to what is always a busy but rewarding end to the year, filled with many wonderful events.
Staffing
We are excited to announce that both Matilda and Jade have secured permanent teaching positions at Eden Hills Primary School. This is a wonderful recognition of the many outstanding contributions both have made over many years. The staff are thrilled to have them both now part of our team in an ongoing capacity. Congratulations Matilda and Jade!
We also farewell Kat who will be taking maternity leave from the end of week 3. We wish her all the very best with the second addition to her family and welcome Dionne (Dee) Kelly who will be taking the class for the remainder of the year.
Colour Fun Day
What a wonderful way to end term 3 with a fun filled day of colour and physical activity. It was wonderful to see so many families turn out to join in the excitement with our students. A big thank you to our Governing Council and parent volunteers who helped organize and support the day, your efforts in making the event such a successful one are very much appreciated. Thank you to our wonderful school community for your contributions in raising $2391.15 towards the SRC Executives initiative to purchase and install and Torres Strait Islander Flag pole. Congratulations go to Room 9 for being the winning class that got to douse me with colour at the end of the day, lots of fun, although my car interior was not as appreciative by the time I arrived home!
Warm regards,
Andrew
Disco
On the 22 September the SRC Executives ran two discos (one for Receptions and Year 1s and one for Year 2s, 3s and 4s). Prior to the discos, we had to send out info notes, learn how to use the sound system in the SAC and get music from the classes and make playlists. It was cool and exciting to learn about setting up the lights and sound. We planned games and activities and did some practice run-throughs. Then came the day of the discos! It felt really cool that we did pretty much all of it by ourselves, and I think we did amazing, especially considering that these were the first discos that any of us had ever run. By Pip
For the first disco (grades R-1) I think we SRCs ran it well, considering it was our first disco that we had ever run, but from it, we also learned a lot of lessons. For example, all of us probably needed to get involved instead of just two and we may have needed to communicate a little better about everything. We also learned that the disco was a little too long for the younger age group since they got a little bored and restless at the end.
For the second disco (grades 2-4), we had a little more experience, so I believe we ran the games a lot better and how we handled everything. It was a little crazier since they were more hyped up but everything went smoother than it did the first time. By Kess
Class Placement
We are currently in the process of preparing for 2024. We are now accepting requests from parents/caregivers regarding their child’s class placement for 2024 until Sunday 12 November (end of Week 4).
Requests will be considered and where possible acted upon. However, with only a finite number of class options and creating classes that are balanced academically, socially and behaviourally, the good of the whole group will take priority over the individual. Therefore, requests are not guaranteed.
We assume that parents and caregivers who do not submit a request are comfortable with class teachers making informed decisions about their child’s placement in 2024.
When setting classes, we consider student identified friendships, teacher input and parent/caregiver requests. Furthermore, it is important to understand that teachers have not been allocated year levels for 2024 at this stage, nor have the configuration of classes been finalised and the current structure is very likely to change for 2024.
All requests must be submitted via a class request form which can be found at
A separate form will need to be completed for each child.
Remembrance Day
Our Remembrance Day ceremony will be held on Friday 10 November. Families are welcome to join us at 10:00am where classes will be open and students will be sharing their Literacy and Numeracy learning activities they have prepared as part of our Site Improvement Plan work this year. At 10:45am we ask that families assemble on the tiger turf where we will commemorate Remembrance Day. After the ceremony students will have their Recess break.

Bushfire and Your Child’s School or Preschool
Our school has detailed plans in place to keep your child safe on catastrophic fire days or in the event of a bushfire.
To help us keep your child as safe as possible, parents and caregivers can prepare for the fire danger season by:
- making a bushfire survival plan with your family
- providing us with your up-to-date contact details
- advising the school/preschool if your family’s personal bushfire survival plan will impact school attendance
- talking to your child about what will happen in a bushfire emergency
- liking the CFS, SES and SAPOL pages on Facebook
- adding the emergency information hotline 1800 000 279 to your contacts.
Parents and caregivers should also read and save the new bushfire and your child’s school or preschool brochure. This resource explains what our school will do on a catastrophic fire day or in the event of a fire.
